losing today

"...we'd be happy to review his debut release for the highly engaging Bearos imprint - frankly how could we resist? Mr Fox was one lead head honcho of post rock dudes Grover who in a career spanning just over a decade released with continued enthusiasm and acclaim a plethora of singles and albums as well as recording an all important session for a certain Mr Peel. Now after a prolonged sabbatical and with the help of a few friends, not to forget a radical change in direction - Mr Fox is back with a debut 4 track EP entitled 'the first rule of comedy' - two tracks of which you can hear showcased here 'sunbeam' and 'please take your time'. However it's the two (as yet) unreleased nuggets we'll concentrate on here. The reflective and resolute 'I'll pay more attention' mellows amid swollen acoustic cascades replaying its architects misery - a hurting pastoral treasure that tenderly touches and tears as though unpicking your heartstrings while all the time romancing you with its unwinding beautified backdrops. The breezy acoustically rustic instrumental 'Yarlington Mill' is an altogether different creature, a gorgeously rolling and unfurling prairie romp embracing subtle elements of Fahey's delta dialects and crafted sweetly - is there anything more entrancing we wonder - time to kick back, chill out and drift away - all I need now is a porch a rocking chair and blazing summer falling nights."
